Partnering with GVLT and the Summer Trails ChallengeAug 27 2018 · 0 comments · Community Involvement, COMPANY NEWS, NISHKIAN MONKS ·0
Nishkian Monks has participated in the 3rd Annual Summer Trails Challenge sponsored by Gallatin Valley Land Trust (GVLT). The summer trails challenge is a collaborative effort between area residents, the City of Bozeman, local businesses, and several public and private organizations in the Bozeman area. The event has emerged out of an effort to celebrate GVLT trail-building efforts and raise funds for future “Main Street to the Mountains” trail system projects which are used by commuters, runners, bikers and dog walkers.
We are incredibly proud to partner with GVLT to build, maintain, and enhance amenities that forever transform our community trails. Over the years Nishkian Monks has collaborated with GVLT and various supporters by providing engineering services to construct or install park amenities around the trails including the nine permanent sculpture pieces for the Bozeman Sculpture Park on the grounds of the Bozeman Public Library and along the Gallagator Trail; the wider and longer clear-span pedestrian bridge at Bozeman Creek leading from East Koch Street into Bogert Park; and the award-winning Kevin Mundy Memorial Bridge at the Drinking Horse Mountain Trail located across from the popular “M” trail at the mouth of Bridger Canyon. This Nishkian Monks project received the 2010 American Council of Engineering Companies-Montana Engineering Excellence Award under the Small Projects category.
The summer trail challenge encouraged participants to record online how far they walk, hike, run, or bike on area trails from June 3 to June 23. For every mile reported, GVLT received $1 from the Trails Challenge Fund, supported by dozens of community businesses. Nearly 5,000 participants logged just over 66,000 miles and raised $66,000 for GVLT.
This year Nishkian Monks is delighted to be one of GVLT’s business sponsors and thrilled to participate in the summer trails challenge event. Our engineers and staff had a blast walking, hiking, running, and biking together to positively impact the community through workplace wellness programs, education and engagement. Here’s a video of one of our bike rides along the “Main Street to the Mountains” trail system. A big thank you to GVLT and community partners who challenged us to get outside and go the distance. Team Nishkian Monks is looking forward to participating in GVLT’s Summer Trails Challenge event next year, and to continuing our history of giving back to our community.
