With unique commitment to service, the recently completed 35,000-square-feet Park James Hotel in Menlo Park opened its doors last week on September 24, 2018. This wood-frame over concrete podium construction project of a 61-room boutique-style hotel includes an underground parking for 75 cars utilizing car stackers.
The structure is three stories of wood framing over two stories of concrete construction (Type VA over Type IA). The wood framing consists of I-joist and glulam floor/roof framing with wood shear walls. Level 2 is a two-way post tensioned podium slab, which transfers the load from wood framing down through concrete columns and walls to the spread and continuous footing foundation system in the basement. The Ground Level slab is a two-way mildly reinforced slab, which is used to support a landscaped patio, event space, and restaurant.
Built on the site of a former Shell gas station at 1400 El Camino Real in downtown Menlo Park, the Park James features elegant guestrooms, a work-friendly lobby lounge, an indoor-outdoor event space, and an outdoor courtyard and pavilion with a central fire feature. Subtle Irish nuances is seen into the design, hinting at Menlo Park’s heritage and history. The Park James also features a 60-seat restaurant, full-service bar, 1,200 square feet of flexible meeting space and various luxury amenities. The property’s Oak + Violet restaurant provides seasonal California farm-to-fork cuisine making Park James appeal to the Silicon Valley set while also providing an unparalleled dining and entertainment experience for locals and visitors.
The joined efforts of Pollock Realty Corporation, Hornberger + Worstell, Build Group, and the Nishkian team brought this luxury boutique hotel project to life. The project is expected to receive LEED Silver designation from the U.S. Green Building Council.
