Offices at The Village at San Antonio Center Start ConstructionFeb 02 2016 · 0 comments · NISHKIAN MENNINGER, Office/Commercial ·0
Over the past two weeks, the foundation has been poured for two office buildings at The Village at San Antonio Center in Mountain View, CA. The 6 story offices will provide 448,000 square feet of office space and will stand above a common underground parking garage. Devcon Incorporated is the architect and general contractor for this project, with the Nishkian Menninger team providing the structural designs.
The office buildings will be constructed using post-tensioned concrete slabs and concrete core walls for the seismic force resisting system. The combination of these two construction methods allows for the greatest amount of ceiling height and for unobstructed views to the outside no matter where you are on the floor. The four levels of below grade parking was a difficult challenge to overcome. The water table is high on this site, meaning the hydrostatic pressures at the foundation level were exceedingly high. To overcome this upward force around our foundation, tie-back anchors were installed into the ground, which essentially prevent floating away.
The office buildings are just a portion of the Village at San Antonio Center that Merlone Geier Partners is developing. When completed, a movie theater, large parking garage, and hotel will stand in the village, along with the existing apartment buildings and additional retail on an adjacent site. Nishkian Menninger has provided the structural design for the office buildings, theater building, and the large garage for The Village at San Antonio. Through the next couple of years, the Nishkian team will continue their work for this project, providing structural observations during construction.
