Nishkian Monks: Promoting Active Lifestyles Inside and Outside the OfficeOct 29 2014 · 0 comments · COMPANY NEWS, NISHKIAN MONKS, Uncategorized ·0
Nishkian Monks, located in Bozeman, a town nestled in the midst of Montana’s Rocky Mountains, has been attracting highly qualified employees who are interested in a balanced lifestyle between indoor work and outdoor play. Bozeman provides opportunities to enjoy a myriad of parks, miles of trails, and countless river access points for fishing while surrounded by natural beauty. The surrounding mountains include Bridger, Gallatin and the Tobacco Root Range and these peaks provide some of the finest skiing and mountain trails in all of North America.
Hence, for the past few years, the principals at Nishkian Monks have been working on an office wellness program which actively supports and promotes its employees’ active lifestyle. The program started within the office by providing sit-stand workstations for each employee. Every workstation is accompanied by windows offering panoramic views to relax one’s eyes while gazing into the horizon. Future changes to the office under the wellness program will include an upper story outside deck with outside seating to enjoy lunch breaks under the sun and exercise equipment.
The wellness program, however, does not stop within the office and the regular work week. Nishkian Monks, through sponsorships of local sport teams/groups (BAHA – Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association, Tri Club – Dark Horse Endurance Racing) encourages its employees to participate in organized sports. Since implementing the program, we have seen a dramatic increase of our employees’ participation in local and national sporting events. For example, our office had entries/competitors in all of the following events just for the year 2014: Bozeman Run to the Pub Half Marathon and 10K, Big Sur Marathon, Jim Bridger Trail Run, Lander Wyoming Half Marathon, The Rut 50K, Big Sky Ultra-Trail Run, Bozeman Marathon Relay, Bozeman Half Marathon, Lake Tahoe Ironman, Oktoberfest 8K Run, and the upcoming Montana Cup, a cross-country team event which brings together runners from all of Montana’s cities for competition, for racing across country, for the glory and of claiming a “traveling trophy”- the Montana Cup. These sporting events have sparked friendly inter-office competitions and provided a fun way to push each other to do even more.
“We’re not only engineers here. Now we have healthier employees with another reason to love the additional benefits which the firm provides them and some great experiences with colleagues outside of the workplace,” remarked Ty Monks.
As the running season ends all of us join in congratulating all participants leading up to this wellness challenge. Best of luck to Ty and to all those running the Montana Cup which will take place on Saturday, November 1st in Missoula.
