Google at 1212 Bordeaux project wins Architectural Record’s 2018 “Good Design Is Good Business” AwardJul 18 2018 · 0 comments · NISHKIAN MENNINGER, Office / Corporate Campus ·0
We are honored and thrilled that the Google at 1212 Bordeaux project in Silicon Valley was a recent recipient of the Architectural Record 2018 “Good Design Is Good Business Award”, and is one of the six “Good Design Is Good Business” winning projects profiled in the June 2018 issue of the magazine. Designed by Charlottesville, Virginia-based Parabola Architecture and constructed by Devcon Construction, Nishkian Menninger served as the Structural Engineer of Record on the project.
Each year Architectural Record’s “Good Design Is Good Business” awards program recognizes exemplary architectural solutions that were instrumental in the growth and success of a range of businesses. It has only been a few months since the doors opened at Google’s new office in Sunnyvale, California, but positive feedback and a great deal of hubbub has been generated by staff, visitors, and critics. The new two-story office building with mezzanine replaced an existing 72,000-square-foot tilt-up concrete building at the Moffett Place campus. The project is a warm shell steel-framed building with skylights, an extensive mezzanine and floor openings providing approximately 101,000 square feet of floor area. The new building also boasts of an outdoor amenity area, a second-floor balcony, suspended canopies and other shading devices, and various support buildings within the office campus.
What translates to this small office building is the fusion of functionality and aesthetics. It is no wonder that this structure has become a testing ground for Google’s future office building campuses. We are thankful to be a part of the 1212 Bordeaux project team that won this distinguished award. Our huge congratulations to everyone involved in the project.
