The merger of Nishkian Menninger in San Francisco and Dean Engineering of Portland, Oregon in 1999 has helped us to extend our superior engineering services throughout the Northwest. We are currently involved in several prominent Portland area projects.
Nishkian Dean is an innovative structural engineering and consulting firm established in 1919, with professional capabilities that realize 90% client retention. These longstanding relationships reflect engineering solutions kept within each client's budget, with high levels of efficient service. We are a structural engineering consultant for commercial, institutional, industrial buildings and special-function structures, rocket launch facilities; seismic analysis and design; building studies, investigations and renovation/rehabilitation specialists.
Nishkian Dean technical personnel stay abreast of the latest design techniques and state-of-the-art theory through applied practice, research and participation in specialized technical seminars and conferences.
We are now located on the second floor of the building at the corner of SW 4th and Stark. Principal Ed Dean has leased a space more than twice the former size, developed the new workstation build-out and incorporated state-of-the-art network, security and internet phone system technology. "We intended to provide an open office to foster interactive communication and with the latest information technology. We feel that the new arrangement provides a rich environment and gives our younger staff better access to those with more experience," he said.
Our profession gives us the advantage of collaborating with a lot of people in the business of building buildings. The tenant improvement is being done by Alan Volm of Pacific Crest Structures. Nishkian Dean has most recently worked with them on a Northwest Portland project consisting of adaptive reuse and seismic strengthening for two long-span wood and concrete warehouses, renovated as retail space.
The move means a change to newer design elements, including some ideas of our own. The space already features high ceilings, long window lines and a very efficient layout with open areas mixed with office perimeters. In addition, the engineering team is installing a signature conference room table which resembles a building foundation, utilizing a five by ten foot polished concrete slab. The concrete piece is being done by long-time client, specialty pre-cast concrete manufacturer, Arcis.
